Installing and uninstalling FlashStats

How to install FlashStats

Locate and open the FlashStats2005.msi file. Follow the prompts to install FlashStats.

Upgrading a prior beta version of FlashStats

If you have a prior beta version of FlashStats installed, you do not need to uninstall it before installing the new beta. Just run the FlashStats2005.msi and your existing installation will be upgraded.

Beta 9 introduces a slightly different format for the configuration files used by FlashStats 2005. When you install beta 9 your existing configuration files will be overwritten. This should only have a significant impact on Search.xml, which is where your search engine (and search provider) definitions are stored. If you have made any changes to the standard list of search engines they will be lost when you install beta 9.

Betas 4 through 9 contain some new XSL templates and chart templates that did not exist in prior beta versions. These new templates are not installed automatically during the upgrade process, so you will need to install them manually. Follow the instructions given in the sections Installing new XSL templates and Installing new chart templates in the Updating chpater.

Installing BitKinex

FlashStats includes a utility called BitKinex (from Barad-Dur, LLC) which it uses to download the web site log files from your web server to your local computer. The FlashStats installation program will also install BitKinex at the end of the normal FlashStats procedure.

How to repair a FlashStats installation

If you have installed FlashStats but it has stopped working for some reason, you may want to repair your installation. Simply re-open the FlashStats2005.msi file and you will get the option to repair or remove the installation.

How to uninstall FlashStats

Before using the Control Panel to remove FlashStats, you should do the following within FlashStats:

  1. Open the Web site menu and choose Delete.... Select each web site and click Delete..., then use the next window to select which data files to delete.

  2. Open the Tools menu and choose Unzipped Logs.... You can select all of the local unzipped log files and delete them.

To remove the FlashStats program from your system, open Control Panel and choose Add or Remove Programs. Scroll down the list of installed programs and choose Maximized Software FlashStats 2005 and click Remove, then follow the prompts.

Please note that after removing FlashStats you may still have the following folders and data on your system, especially if you did not follow the first two steps above.

Folder Description
C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Application Data\Maximized Software\FlashStats 2005 FlashStats stores most data related to each web site that it knows about in this folder.
C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Local Settings\Application Data\Maximized Software\FlashStats 2005 Stores local copies of web site log files.
C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\My Documents\FlashStats 2005 Reports generated by FlashStats.
