iCoverArt (download) is an iTunes utility that automates embedding album cover art into song files.
Using iCoverArt to embed artwork in your iTunes software song files is fast, easy and
ensures that...
- Artwork is displayed within iTunes while a song is playing (open the Edit menu and choose Show Artwork).
- Artwork is displayed in iTunes visualizations.
- You can print CD jewel case covers or album listings with the album artwork (open the File menu in iTunes and choose Print).
- If you have an iPod photo (or nano or video), the album cover will display while the song is playing.
iTunes has a built-in method of adding artwork to songs, but it requires you to add cover art
to each album (or song) one at a time. If you have a lot of songs this quickly becomes tedious!
iCoverArt will automate the process: it will scan your entire iTunes library and then embed
cover art into songs which do not yet have any.
iCoverArt requires only iTunes (version 4.5 or later) installed on a Windows-based system. iCoverArt does not require an iPod.
Of course, iCoverArt will also work great if you are using iTunes along with any type of iPod
-- iPod, iPod mini, iPod photo, iPod shuffle, iPod nano, Motorola ROKR phone, or even the
new video iPod!
iCoverArt is most useful if you have ripped your CD collection into iTunes, since you will not yet have cover art in those song files. (Songs purchased online from the iTunes Music Store already have cover art embedded in each song file.) iCoverArt can embed album cover images in JPG, GIF, PNG, or BMP format into song files in MP3, AAC (and .M4P), AIFF, or Apple Lossless format (.M4A).
Please note that iTunes requires the album cover art image to be embedded within each individual song file. There is no concept of "shared album artwork." iCoverArt helps by automating the process of adding the same artwork to many different songs.
iCoverArt works best when you have enabled the iTunes option "Keep iTunes Music folder organized" or otherwise have your music folders organized by album. iCoverArt will always search for a file named Folder.jpg in each album's folder, and will embed this image into each song file within that folder.
If a folder does not contain cover art in a file named Folder.jpg, then you can add artwork by dragging an image from a browser window onto the iCoverArt window. If you have a lot of albums, however, this can get tedious. A better way to automate this process is to install and run Windows Media Player 9 (or later). Launch Windows Media Player and minimize it, letting it run silently in the background. Windows Media Player will automatically find your album folders and will download album cover artwork for each album, storing it in a file named Folder.jpg, which iCoverArt can later embed into each song file.
(Note that WMP will only retrieve artwork for files stored in MP3 format.)
If you are using Windows XP, each album's Folder.jpg image will be displayed on the folder icon when viewing the folder in Windows Explorer (in Thumbnail view).
Register iCoverArt for only $5.00
Please be aware that until you have registered your copy of iCoverArt, it will only
embed cover art into five songs each time it is run.
You only need to register your copy of iCoverArt once - all future versions of iCoverArt
are free to registered users. Try out iCoverArt to see if you like it. If you find our
iTunes Windows utility useful, please
register your copy of iCoverArt to be able to
run it without the five song limitation.

New features in version 1.1
Version 1.1 adds the ability to delete album cover artwork already embedded in files.
Just select the desired songs on the 'Songs with artwork' tab, then open the File menu
and choose 'Delete existing artwork' command.
In addition, a few minor bugs were fixed. Most notable was a fix to make sure that
iCoverArt worked for users of non-US (ie, non-English) versions of iTunes.
